Needle felting is the process of sculpting wool roving using a very sharp barbed needle. Piercing the wool using repeated strokes causes the wool fibers to compress, allowing it to be shaped. Each piece takes many hours to complete and is truly a labor of love. Most of Heather's needle felted sculptures start with a wire armature over which wool and other natural fibers are applied. She does not use styrofoam cores, poly fillers, polymers, or glass eyes.
Heather’s needle felted figural sculptures are representative of creatures that can be found within a few miles of her Cape Cod home. Sometimes, inspiration comes from an impression made by an encounter while hiking the New England woodlands. They make beautiful interior accents. Display one, or a grouping, on your desk, bookcase, hearth, or windowsill; anywhere that will remind you, or someone special, of the beauty, peace, and vulnerability of nature. Each piece is lovingly packaged in a craft paper box tied with orange raffia.
Shop updates take place several times per year and will be announced on Facebook and Instagram.
