A vintage natural tree hole frame makes an accurate and handsome entrance for this cavity-nesting needle felted barn owl.
The handmade vintage birch frame was found in a Vermont antiques shop displaying a mid-century photo of two unidentified hunters with a deer. The photo was removed, the frame cleaned and smoothed while retaining all characteristics of the live edge bark.
The 3D needle felted owl features vintage taxidermy glass eyes (also found in a Vermont antiques store), a custom blend of natural fiber, solid wool core, and an accent of green locks .
Acid free foam core board backs the wool owl. Coats of clear ultra-flat poly acrylic protect the natural wood. A dust cover was added to the back. Signed. The entire piece (from frame top to tail tip) is 20 inches long and 9.25 inches wide. It projects from the wall 2.50 inches. Signed. Avoid hanging in direct sunlight.
