Pheasant in Snow

Pheasant in Snow

$475.00

To pay homage to the two occasions Heather has seen these striking and large birds in the wild—once on Cape Cod and once in Ireland, she created a needle-felted wool male ring-necked pheasant.

In this piece, tail is made from turkey feathers—cleaned, of course—collected over years while walking, each trimmed to a narrow point reminiscent of the distinctive pheasant tail. The bird is perched on an antique wooden vase base from China, part of a large lot acquired at auction several years ago. The rich purples, blues, greens, reds, and oranges of his plumage are created from a combination of many fibers, including silk, merino, Corriedale, Romney, Bergschaf, and a touch of iridescent fiber. The bird is built over an internal sturdy wire armature and has a solid wool core. The eyes are wool with a hint of iridescent reflective fiber. The snow is wool that delicately shimmers and is accented with raffia grass and watery droplets of glass beads. Measures 10.5 inches from beak to tail tip and 7 inches tall, including the base. Signed under the base.

This is not a toy. Keep out of reach of young children and pets. Avoid display in direct sunlight.
