Spooning Squirrels
This pair of needle felted red squirrels sleep peacefully in a bed of natural raffia, and long leaf pine needles (a species of pine in the southern United States. The vessel is an antique wooden storage container with original paint found in a New Hampshire shop. The numbers indicate the approximate size—though the exact size is 7.5 inches x 3 inches deep.
Each squirrel was made separately with wire armatures and solid wool cores. The fibers are a custom blend of silk, merino, alpaca, mohair, and corridale. These fibers were applied in an array of tiny tufts and sculpted with felting needles and scissors for a natural looking pelt, or fur. The whiskers are horsehair.
This piece displays beautifully resting on it’s side (as in the photos), laying flat, or hanging on a wall (with Scotch brand Command Strips, not included). Signed on reserve side.
This is not a toy. Keep out of reach of young children and pets. Avoid display in direct sunlight.
