Saw-whet owl

Saw-whet owl

$300.00

This needle felted wool northern saw-whet owl was inspired by Rockefeller, the tiny owl found in the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, the 75-foot Norway spruce that was transported 170 miles, from Oneonta to New York City. Shocked, but otherwise unharmed, it was rescued and sent to a rehabilitation center for care and eventual release.

This life-size needle felted saw-whet is fixed to an artist’s conk (ganoderma applanatum), also known as artist’s bracket or bear bread. The woody fungus rests flush mounted to a wall and serves as a natural perch. The entire piece (conk and owl) measures 10.5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide, and 3.5 inches deep. The owl is made with wire armature and with a core of 100% wool. Fibers used include alpaca, Angora, merino, silk, and New Zealand cross. The beak, and each toe and talon, is wire wrapped with wool and sealed with beeswax. The eyes are wool. Signed.

This is not a toy. Keep out of reach of young children and pets.
