This life-size realistic needle felted wool mouse sits atop a wooden vintage spool, playfully tugging on the thick green thread with its mouth. Both the antique glass taxidermy eyes and spool of thread were purchased at an estate sale in at a very old farmhouse in rural New Boston, New Hampshire.
The mouse is permanently and discreetly secured to the spool. It has a wire armature and solid wool core. The top coat fibers were applied in a layered array of dozens of tiny tufts and sculpted with felting needles and scissors. Each little toe is wire wrapped with wool thread and secured with beeswax to create tiny claws. The whiskers are horsehair. The mouse and spool together are 4.75 inches tall.
