This fluffy life-like needle felted chick and egg were created in joyful anticipation of spring and the welcome signs of new life and warmer days ahead.
The chick a solid wool core over a wire armature. Yellow Cotswold wool was applied in an array of dozens of tiny tufts then sculpted with scissors and felting needles resulting in fluffy feathers. The beak and eyes are wool. Layers of flax, mohair, gotland, and cotswold fibers were used to create the little wingsThe legs and toes are wire wrapped with wool thread and secured with beeswax to create tiny claws. The egg has a solid wool core and a tan corriedale topcoat. The chick stand five inches tall.
