Here, a wee mouse struggles to climb out of an old tin that once stored tea or food. The tin is stamped “Drew & Co, Piccadilly Circus, En Route". It was part of a c.1900 picnic tea set that was advertised as being “indispensable to all traveling to the Riviera”. See photos.
The mouse is built over a wire armature and has a solid wool core. The tiny toes are all wire wrapped with silk and finished with beeswax. The fur is a custom blend of baby alpaca applied with a shingle technique and trimmed back with scissors to sculpt, giving it the look of natural fur. The eyes are wool and whiskers are horsehair. The tin is 2.5 inches tall and wide and 4.25 inches tall to the ear tips.
