This large realistic needle felted wool raccoon sculpture has many technical features. It is made from a core of 100% wool and is built over a wire armature. The feet have individual toes with pads and wire claws. The pelt, or top coat, was a applied with a shingling technique using a custom blend of fibers in varying shades to give it a realistic look. The same technique was used for the tail. Fibers used include merino, karakul, alpaca, and corriedale all of which combine to add dimension and texture to the “fur.” The eyes and nose are also wool. The whiskers are horsehair.
This piece is 20 inches long from nose to tail tip and 8.5 tall at the ear tips.
